The corporate roots of the Canton Railroad Company stretch back almost 80 years before it was formally chartered in 1906. Its heritage is intertwined with Baltimore’s development as an important American port city and railroad terminal and the evolution of the original Canton Company. In turn, the efforts of the Canton Company to promote itself and make a profit in real estate enterprises contributed greatly to the growth of Baltimore and its port.
